Hi I’m Tara Turquoise c D–Light™.

I LOVE Quizzes.   They’re totally fun.

Besides, you never know what weird and wonderful stuff you’ll learn.   Great for challenging your friends and family.   Or for showing off how clever you are.

Just make sure you remember the answer, because people can get really nasty when you get them curious about something and then don’t give them the answer.

We warned you…

Quick Quiz 01

Curly definitions and abbreviations to stump you…

Don’t stress if you mess up — chances are your English teacher will get it wrong too!   Why don’t you remember this quick quiz (or download it), then you can test that pesky english–sprouting disciplinarian when they’re giving you a hard time and see if they really know their stuff???

What do the lower–case letters “cd” stand for?

  1. Compact Disk — a disk on which digitally–encoded information is stored which can then be read by a laser beam and transmitted to a play–back system, computer monitor or television set
  2. Candela — the SI base unit of luminous intensity (i.e.   measurement of light intensity)
  3. Corps Diplomatique — the whole body of ambassadors and their staffs accredited to a state
  4. All the above
  5. Neither a. nor c. — these are properly represented by the capital letters CD
  6. Only a.

The right answer is:

e.   —   Neither a. nor c.
These are properly represented by the capital letters CD.

Why?

Because only candela is represented by the lower–case letters (cd), in proper English, although all three terms use the same letters.   To distinguish, abbreviations for compact disks and corps diplomatique use upper–case or capital letters (CD).   In popular language, people sometimes mix this up and use lower case letters for compact disks as well.

And when you see c D, it’s a shortcut for c D–Light™ .   What’s a c D–Light™?   c D–Light™s are those totally fun, funky new LED lights for kids.   Customise them with your own mad message or choose one of our Moods Inscapes™ images.   Too cool!   How cool?   Click here…
